Tasneem becomes first Muslim woman Mayor of Mysuru

Mysuru: A 34-year-old woman, Tasneem became the first Muslim woman to become the Mayor of Mysuru.

Tasneem defeated BJP candidate

Tasneem, Corporator of Ward number 26 defeated BJP candidate, Geetha Yogananda who represents Ward number 65.

During the election, out of 70 members, 47 voted in favour of Tasneem who contested on JD (s) ticket whereas Geetha got 23 votes.

After winning Mayor Election, Tasneem thanked party chief HD Deve Gowda. She also thanked voters who elected her for the second time as Corporator. She promised to retain the ‘clean city’ tag of Mysuru.

It may be mentioned that Tasneem has completed BA course from Maharani’s College.  

First Muslim Mayor of Mysuru

It may be recalled that in 1996, Arif Hussain was elected as the first Muslim Mayor of Mysuru. Later, Ayub Khan also served as a Mayor in 2008.
