Techie gets 5-year jail term for abetting wife’s suicide

Hyderabad: The Metropolitan Magistrate Court sentenced software engineer, Simhadri Bala Kishore, to seven years of imprisonment for abetting his wife’s suicide and torturing her for dowry.

The 31-year old Kishore was convicted under by Judge P. Laxmi Sharadha, during a trial on Friday under IPC section 304 (B) and section 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act.

The court order stated, “It has been proven that the mental and physical cruelty inflicted upon Eesha Pani (the victim) by Bala Kishore in her matrimonial house drove her to commit suicide alongside the injuries she sustained. She was always forced to ask her parents for the unlawful dowry payment.”

According to the prosecution, Kishore’s parents demanded Rs. 50 lakh and a house in dowry from Pani’s parents when they got married in 2015.

The police attested to the fact that Pani went through such torment. The accused also demanded an additional dowry of Rs. 40 to 50 lakhs to settle in America. The victim’s parents requested Kishore not to harass their daughter as they would arrange for Rs. 25 lakhs as soon as possible.

However, the accused didn’t acquiesce to Pani’s parents and began harassing their daughter constantly. Therefore, in May 2015, Pani committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in her bedroom.

The police then arrested the Kishore and sent him into judicial custody.
