Three Haj pilgrims allegedly abused, attacked in Silchar town

SILCHAR: It is astonishing to report that now Haj pilgrims were allegedly abused and attacked by a mob in Assam’s in Silchar town.

According to media reports, the incident took place on Thursday on June 27th, 2019 at Silchar – Central Road when a group of 10-12 miscreants allegedly attacked three victims identified as Jamir Uddin Laskar, Najir Ahmed Laskar and Abdul Khaleque Choudhury.

The three elderly persons were on their way to the District Administration’s office to collect their identity cards for the Haj pilgrimage when they were stopped by the miscreants.

The accused forcibly took away their skull caps, abused and attack them while the nearby shopkeepers stood as the mute spectators.

The victims alleged that the accused also threatened them with dire consequences if they did not leave the place at once.

Following the incident, a large number of people from the minority community surrounded the Silchar police station and lodged an FIR and demanded the immediate arrest of the accused.

Police launched a massive manhunt and on Friday, arrested three accused identified as Sabyasachi Chakraborty, Bappi Das and Joydeep Pal and efforts are continue to nab the other culprits in connection with the incident.
