Ties with India remains “only problem” for peace and stability in region: Pak PM

BEIJING: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan while addressing China International Cultural Communication Centre here on Friday said that relationship with India remains the “only problem” for peace and stability in the region.

Khan is in China to take part in the 2nd Belt and Road Forum, (BRF) has expressed hope of establishing a “civilised relationship” with New Delhi after the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

Unless there is peace and stability in region, economic prosperity is difficult for Pakistan.

“Whatever happens in Afghanistan affects Pakistan’s bordering areas. So we are working for a peaceful region. We have a decent relationship with Iran and we are trying to strengthen them. The only problem right now is our relationship with India. But we are hoping that after the Indian elections, we will again hope to have a civilized relationship with India too,” he said according to a leading news agency PTI.

Earlier this month, the cricketer-turned-politician said he believes there may be a better chance of peace talks with India and settling the Kashmir issue if the BJP wins the general election.

It marks the premier’s second official visit to the country since coming into power. His first visit had come in November last year, following which China’s President Xi Jinping had invited him again to attend the second Belt and Road Forum, which kicks off in Beijing on Friday, reported the Dawn.
