TN: 10 people arrested for vandalizing police vehicle, constable

Tiruvannamalai: As many as 10 people were arrested for attacking a constable and vandalizing a police vehicle in Tiruvannamalai district on Sunday.

According to reports, things turned awry when a police vehicle carrying 13 armed reserve women personnel from Theni district to Kancheepuram for post duty at Varadaraja Perumal temple where the Athi Varadar festival was going on when it overtook an auto and damaged its mirror, TOI reports.

The Dusi police in Tiruvannamalai district on Sunday arrested 10 people for attacking a constable and vandalizing a police vehicle.


Constable Eswaran, 23, driving the police vehicle, hit autorickshaw near Sipcot at Cheyyar damaging Auto driver Dharman’s mirror who was drunk.

The auto driver chased the police vehicle and intercepted the vehicle and demanded compensation.

As the argument between the two escalated constable Eswaran beat Dharman with a lathi kept near the driver’s seat which led to Dharman’s head injury.

Dharman and his supporters immediately attacked the police vehicle with iron rods, logs, and threatened to torch police vehicle with the women inside in it.

The Dusi Police officials immediately rushed to spot and sent Dharman and Eshwaran to Cheyyar Government hospital for their injuries.

This video of vandalizing the police vehicle was widely shared on social media platforms which led to arrest of 10 people booked under different IPC sections and Tamil Nadu Public Property (Prevention of Damage and Loss) Act.
