TS govt. will take decision on NRC, NPR in cabinet meeting: KTR

Hyderabad: Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) on Friday said that the Telangana government would take a decision on the NRC and NPR after due deliberations in the state cabinet.

“We are extremely clear on the stand on the issue of Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). There is no big confusion in it. Whatever we have said on the floor of the House, we stand by that. There is no change in that,” PTI quoted TRS working president K T Rama Rao as saying.

It must be recalled that TRS voted against the amendment to citizenship law in Parliament.

Saying that NRC, NPR and CAA are important issues KRT said that decisions on them cannot be announced by an individual or a party. He made it clear that the decision on them will be taken by the cabinet.

He, however, reiterated that TRS MPs are opposed to the exclusion of Muslims. He reminded that TRS had told the central government that it would vote in favour of the bill if Muslims are included.

Saying that there were some doubts over the centre’s announcement on NPR, TRS parliamentary party chairman K Keshav Rao said TRS would oppose it if the doubts turned out to be true or else go with the NPR.

Representatives of United Muslim Action Committee along with AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi had met the Chief Minister on December 25. They requested him to stay the work on updation of NPR in Telangana on the lines of Kerala.

Following the meeting, Owaisi claimed the Chief Minister was sympathetic towards their demand and said he was hoping for a positive response from KCR.
