Putin quotes the Holy Quran

In an unexpected move, Russian President Vladimir Putin has urged Muslims to end the conflict in Yemen by quoting verses from the Holy Quran.

While addressing the audience on Monday alongside Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani, the Russian President, according to RT quoted the verse 103 of Surah Al-Imran of the Holy Quran, that says:

“And remember the favour of Allah upon you – when you were enemies and He brought your hearts together and you became, by His favour, brothers.”

Both Erdogan and Rouhani commended the Russian president’s references to the  Holy Quran.

He also extracted another Islamic instruction, about how violence is only allowed in self-defence.

He semi-jokingly suggests that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia buy Russian air defence system, as Iran and Turkey have already done.

The catastrophic ongoing war in Yemen and Syria resulted in the killing of tens of thousands of people and millions face the threat of starvation.
