US nuclear disarmament ideas welcome; no talks with Russia yet: Kremlin

Moscow [Russia]: United States’ initiatives for nuclear disarmament are welcome, but Washington has not discussed them with Russia yet, said Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov on Saturday.

“Certain initiatives on nuclear reductions are welcome, but in this case it is difficult to judge by general statements,” he said.

“Intentions are good but we would like to know the details: what does President Trump mean and whether there have been preliminary discussions of the matter,” TASS quoted Peskov as saying.

He also said that as far as he knew, the US “has not discussed the matter with Russian experts”.

This comes a day after CNN reported that United States President Donald Trump is planning to sign a grand nuclear deal with Russia and China and he thinks that the two countries should also come under the purview of arms control laws.

“The President has made clear that he thinks that arms control should include Russia and China and should include all the weapons, all the warheads, all the missiles,” said a senior White House official.
