Veteran broadcaster, poet Obaid Siddiqui passes away

New Delhi: Obaid Siddiqui, a veteran broadcaster, poet and academician passed away in a Ghaziabad hospital at the age of 63.

Siddiqui was suffering from multiple ailments and was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kaushambi, Ghaziabad, for the past one week. He breathed his last on Thursday morning.

Siddiqui who is survived by a daughter and two brothers, was born in Meerut in 1957. He received higher education at the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and joined All India Radio at Srinagar station in 1988. PTI reported.

He also worked for BBC Urdu service, London. In 2004, he joined AJK Mass Communication Research Centre, of Jamia Millia Islamia’s and was later appointed as its director. He also worked with NDTV.

Siddiqui was also known as an Urdu poet.
