Veteran Telugu actor Gollapudi Maruthi Rao passes away

NEW DELHI: Noted Telugu movie actor, writer and theatre persona Gollapudi Maruti Rao passed away in Chennai on Thursday.

He was 80.

The Litterateur was unwell since quite some time and breathed his last at a private hospital while undergoing treatment for the age-related ailments.

Born into a Telugu-speaking Brahmin family on April 14th, 1929 in Vijayanagaram, Gollapudi was finest identified as a prolific screenwriter, dramatist, playwright, theatre actor and dialogue writer.

He acted in over 230 movies and also holds six Nandi Awards to his name.

Rao’s noted films include Gudachari No.1, Aalaya Sikharam, Challenge, Murari, Kanche and Leader.

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao expressed shock over the demise of Gollapudi Maruthi Rao.

Telangana CMO tweeted, “CM Sri KCR has expressed shock over the demise of noted writer, actor and columnist Sri Gollapudi Maruthi Rao. Recalled and hailed the services rendered by Sri Maruthi Rao to the Telugu cinema and Telugu literature. Conveyed condolences to the bereaved family members.”
