Vishwa Hindu Mahasabha chief shot dead on morning walk

Lucknow: Vishwa Hindu Mahasabha chief Ranjit Bachchan was shot dead this morning after he went out for a walk.

The founder member of the right-wing group was attacked by bike-bourne assailants at Hazratganj.

The deceased was accompanied by his cousin identified as Aditya Srivastav who stated one of the assailants had snatched their cellphones and fired multiple rounds at them.

The deceased Ranjit Bachchan received bullet injuries on his head and died on the spot while his cousin Aditya Srivastav sustained a bullet injury on his hand.

According to reports, a .32bore pistol was recovered from the spot.

The deceased was associated with the Samajwadi Party before he went on to form the right-wing group said the sources.

The police authorities have said six police teams have been set up to probe the broad daylight murder of the right-wing group.

This is the second such case where a right-wing leader was killed in Lucknow in recent months.

In October, Kamlesh Tiwari, president of the Hindu Samaj Party, was attacked while at home. He was shot in the face and stabbed 15 times and died on the way to the hospital.
