WB: Stampede-like situation at PM’s rally, several injured, hospitalized

Thakurnagar: PM Modi’s rally in North 24 Parganas today here was disrupted with PM leaving early after a stampede-like situation broke out at the venue injuring many people.

Several women, including children, were injured in the stampede-like situation said a senior police officer said, TOI reports.

Hundreds of supporters tried to barge into the inner ring of the rally while the PM was addressing the well-attended rally of the Matua community.

Modi, at first, tried to calm the crowd and asked them to stay put in their places and stop pushing each other on the front side of the inner ring.

Modi had to abruptly cut short his speech in the middle and leave the venue as supporters pushed each other, threw chairs inside the no-man zone in front of the stage to make space for others to stand in the inner ring.

Injured persons were also rushed to the hospital for primary treatment, the officer said.
