WhatsApp: Unlike ‘Delete Message’, this feature leaves no trace

Popular messaging application WhatsApp previously known to be the most secure encrypted application is struggling to work on its security features previously breached by a spyware ‘Pegasus’.

However, the Facebook-owned application constantly keeps updating its software to enhance its security as well as include new features to provide smooth messaging and call experience to its users, HT reports.

The latest update version 2.19.120 comes with new exciting features for iPhone users.

Earlier this October Whatsapp reported that its working on disappearing messages which is a feature of self destruct.

As the name suggests, this feature self-destructs messages after a certain interval of time set by the user.

The latest update shows more development on disappearing messages and dark mode as well.

For Androids, the WhatsApp beta version 2.19.348 shows the disappearing messages feature which has now been renamed to ‘Delete Messages’, WABetaInfo notes.

However, it’s still in trial and is not available for public beta users as yet.
WhatsApp’s Delete Messages feature is available for one-to-one and group chats.

This feature will have a toggle on/off button in the contact info for chats on WhatsApp, whereas in group chats only admins will be able to turn this feature on or off.

Speaking about time intervals, users have five options to choose from – 1 hour, 1 day, 1 week, 1 month and 1 year and that particluar chat will disappear.

For instance, if the time interval is set to 1 hour every message sent in that particular chat will disappear after that time.

Unlike the ‘Delete for Everyone’ option, this new feature doesn’t leave a trace on deleted messages.

When a user deletes a message on WhatsApp, it displays a message – “This message has been deleted”.

But with this feature, the disappearing messages will be like the message never existed.

The new update also showed that this feature has been developed for dark mode as well.

WhatsApp dark mode is expected to roll out anytime soon with the feature almost ready.
