Babri anniversary passes off peacefully in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, December 06: The 18th anniversary of Babri Masjid demolition today passed off peacefully in twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad even as a partial shutdown was observed in Old City area here, police said.

Police had taken over 400 persons into the preventive custody since last night, while around 50 activists of different organisations were picked up today after they tried to take out processions defying prohibitory orders in various parts of the Old City, they said.

A large number of shops and business establishments pulled down their shutters in the Old City.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner A K Khan, who along with senior police officers monitored the security arrangements near the historic Charminar, told reporters that “No untoward incident has been reported. Police personnel is keeping a close watch to ensure peace.
