UP election results 2012: list of Muslim MLAs in new assembly

UP election 2012 results are out and Samajwadi party is celebrating its unprecedented success. With 225 seats in its kitty the SP is enjoying the spotlight thrown at it. But it was simply unexpected and the scale was too big to comprehend even for the most diehard supporters of the party.

Muslims have obviously played a big role in the thumping victory of Mulayam Singh’s party that once again played Muslim-Yadav card to the fullest. But that alone didn’t really brought the victory to Mulayam. Upper caste people were suffering under Mayawati the most due to the fact that landed upper caste people had to give higher daily wages to mostly dalit labors, they were being forced to pay taxes as well as electricity bills and that was simply too much for them.

So Mayawati’s social engineering formula flopped this year while Mulayam’s Muslim/Yadav card succeeded. But due credit must be given to Azam Khan for his efforts in polarizing Muslims in favor of Mulayam Sing Yadav.

Another good news for the community is finally the success of Peace Party, floated by Dr Ayoob, a renowned surgeon. His party has bagged six seats in assembly elections with him easily winning from Khalilabad constituency. A Muslim political party in the state is finally a reality after Dr Faridi’s Muslim Majlis that had some success in eighties.

Here is a list of Muslim candidates who have won on different parties tickets in UP.
