Naidu meets Singapore ministers, officials on Day – 1

On a three-day visit to Singapore, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and his team visited Marina Bay Sands Sky Park and Centre for Liveable Cities to study Singapore’s best urban practices.

The Chief Minister met Second Minister (trade & industry) S. Iswaran and discussed the opportunities in Andhra Pradesh. He was also given a tour of Marina Bay Sands Sky Park which is one of the trademarks of Singapore.

At the Centre for Liveable Cities (CLC), the Chief Minister was explained by the executive director of CLC, Mr Khoo Teng Chye, about the best urban planning practices of the city-state.

Singapore has taken some of the best measures to conserve and manage drinking water. The Chief Minister reviewed and studied their integrated efforts to minimize solid waste through recycling, purchase of recycled products and provision of waste audits. He also met experts from national water agency, Public Utilities Board (PUB) of Singapore, which is the sole body responsible for the collection, production, distribution and reclamation of water in the city.

Singapore is known for its innovation in the field of drainage for water management. The practices include the use of precast box culverts to cut drains on busy roads overnight in order to minimize construction time and traffic disruption, computer modeling to optimize canal design, incorporation of special engineering and landscaping features to retain a river’s natural features.

The Chief Minister also took a Singapore River Cruise from Clarke Quay into Marina Bay to study Singapore River Clean-up and understand the development of Singapore River Tourism District. This will help Andhra Pradesh in developing its capital on the river front and also give a fillip to boost beach tourism in the state.

A delegation comprising of finance minister Y Ramakrishnudu, municipal administration minister P Narayana, advisor (communications) Dr. Parakala Prabhakar and senior officials from planning, infrastructure and investments, industries are part of the visiting team. (INN)
