President condoles passing away of CPI-M leader Amitava Nandy

President Pranab Mukherjee today condoled the passing away of veteran Communist Party of India- Marxist (CPI-M) leader Amitava Nandy. In a condolence message to his wife, Ila Nandy, the President said, “I am deeply saddened to learn about the passing away of your husband, Shri Amitava Nandy who was a friend and colleague of long years.” “A veteran CPI (M) leader and a distinguished Parliamentarian, Nandy was always concerned about the welfare of the people in the State of West Bengal. He was known for his varied interests in sports as well as various art and cultural activities. In his passing away, the nation has lost a personality who was always in touch with the grassroots of society,” he added. “Kindly accept my heartfelt condolences and convey the same to other members of your family. I pray to the Almighty to give you and your family the strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss,” he further added. (ANI)
