Bhubaneswar, August 20: Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi will address a tribal rally at Lanjigarh area in the foothills of Niyamgiri hills in Orissa’s Kalahandi district where Vedanta Aluminium Limited (VAL) has set up a refinery.
The Gandhi scion’s proposed visit to Lanjigarh area comes at the time when Vedanta’s mining plan in the Niyamgiri hills, has reached a crucial phase in view of the Saxena Committee report.
“Rahulji is coming to Lanjigarh area on August 26 to meet the tribal people and address a public meeting,” State Youth Congress President and Nawrangpur MP Pradeep Majhi told PTI over phone.
Gandhi who visited Lanjigarh area in March 2008 had told a public meeting that he would fight in Delhi for the cause of tribals opposing mining in the Niyamgiri hills.
