2 more arrested for Saharanpur violence

Saharanpur: Two more persons have been arrested here in connection with the incidents of violence over taking out a rally to mark Ambedkar Jayanti in Janakpuri area, police said today.

Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested the two accused person, identified as Virendra Punder and Bhawan alias Bunty, additional superintendent of police Sanjay Singh said.

Several people, including BJP MP Raghav Lakhanpal Sharma and SSP Love Kumar, were injured in brick-batting between the members of two communities on April 20 following an argument over the rally passing through the communally sensitive Janakpuri area.

Later, the BJP MP and his supporters had protested outside the residence of the SSP, and had allegedly damaged a CCTV camera and removed his nameplate.

More than 300 people were booked for indulging in violence of which 10 were arrested earlier, the official said.

The two FIRs registered in connection with the incidents mentioned the BJP MP was present on both the spots.
