HYDERABAD: The gold robbery worth 1.5cr which took place in Hyderabad last month was planned by a Peruvian gang along with four Bengaluru-based Nigerians. The new findings have come up after the Police apprehended the Nigerians in Bengaluru.
1.5 crore worth of gold was stolen on April 16, in broad daylight from a gold jeweler Abhishek Agarwal, diverting his attention by puncturing his sedan car’s tire with nails. The Peruvian gang involving two men and one woman were behind the robbery. The woman walked away with the bag of gold which contained 3.5kgs of gold while the Agarwal was replacing his car’s tire.
After the case has been filed, Cyberabad Police started investigating the matter and finally after analyzing the CCTV footage found clues to the case. The CCTV footage showed a white Toyota Camry following Agarwal’s sedan. CCTV footage on check posts revealed the Toyota Camry car crossing the Devanahalli check post on April 17.
Police on tracing the car to Bengaluru questioned the second owner of the Camry, Khaled. He told police that on April 6, he sold it to two Nigerians named Michael and Balkans.
Having enough information of the culprits, using the immigration database, Police tracked down the two Nigerians in Bengaluru. “On June 1, Nigerians Richard and Henry, and later, their associates Paul and Wale, were held,” Cyberabad CP Sandeep Shandilya said on Friday.
Investigating the matter, Police found the Peruvian mobile number through the call details.
On further probing into the matter, a Peruvian FB account belonging to Miranda Romero Daniel Arturo came up. The police using immigration database found the person named Miranda was in India in April and has also checked into a Bengaluru hotel along with his other two companions Peruvians – Pacheco Rojas Percy Moises and Infanzon Sulca Rosa Ysabel.
The apprehended Nigerians confessed that the theft was committed by Peruvian trio during the interrogation. “They fled with the booty to Nepal by road and escaped to Malaysia after disposing of gold either in West Bengal or in Nepal,” said police.
Cyberabad CP Sandeep said “The accused may have committed more such offenses in India. We will initiate proceedings to issue an Interpol red corner notice against the three Peruvians and an on-the-run Nigerian, Saiki Onimisi Dele alias Michael alias Benjamin”. The Cyberabad Police has recovered several debits cards, credit cards, and 130gm of gold from the Nigerians, Times of India reported.
