7 cops killed as Jalalabad gunbattle ends near Pak consulate

Kabul : At least seven policemen have been killed as the four-hour long gunbattle between Afghan security forces and gunmen ends near the Pakistani consulate in the eastern city of Jalalabad.

Ministry of Interior spokesman Sediq Sediqqi confirmed the death toll, adding that seven policemen were injured in the Nangarhar province of Jalalabad.

However, local security sources said civilians have also been injured, including a consulate staff member.

The attack took place at about 9:00am local in Jalalabad after a suicide bomber detonated his explosives at the Pakistan Consulate and opened the way for at least two attackers to enter.

The siege ended after almost four hours.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack as yet. (ANI)
