The Hyderabad City South Zone police conducted cordon and search operations at seven places in the Old City from Sunday night to Monday morning.
Speaking to mediapersons here on Monday, South Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police Satyanarayana said some 500 police personnel, under direct supervision of higher police officials, cardoned off the suspected areas and searched every house with an intention to flush out chain snatchers from Bihar, West Bengal and other places.
During the midnight operation, the police took some 160 suspects into custody for interrogation. They also seized 91 bikes without any documents and four cars. Most of those detained were from Burma, West Bengal, Bihar and Maharashtra, the DCP added. (NSS)
