ABVP’s Vikrant Kumar assaulted Najeeb Ahmed before he went missing: JNU probe

New Delhi: VP member Vikrant Kumar reportedly assaulted Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student Najeeb Ahmed on 14 October – a day before the latter went missing – a probe by the university has found.

“In the proctorial enquiry, Vikrant Kumar has been found to be involved in hitting Najeeb Ahmed and using derogatory language with provocative behaviour on 14 October. This is an act of indiscipline and misconduct,” the official order sates.

According to a PTI report, Vikrant has been asked to explain why disciplinary action should not be initiated against him.

However, the ABVP has dismissed all the charges and have accused the JNU authorities of being “biased”. ABVP further asserted that the enquiry committee had named Vikrant on the basis of the reports from students who were apparently not even present at the site.

Najeeb, a first year MSc Biotechnology student, went missing from the JNU campus on 15 October after an alleged tiff with members of the RSS’ student wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad.

The police has offered a reward of Rs 5 lakh for information about the student.
