“Annapoorna” Subsidized meals in more Centers soon

As many as 150 Food Courts providing meals to the poor and needy at a nominal price of Rs.5 would be started in the GHMC limits shortly.

Stating this in the Assembly on Thursday, Minister for Municipal Administration K. T. Ramarao pointed out that 109 such Food Courts are already functioning in the city. These Food Courts called “Annapoorna” would be increased to 150 shortly, he added.

KTR said the TRS Government’s commitment was to ensure sumptuous meals to the poor at an affordable price and hence the Food  Courts to provide meals at for Rs 5 was started by the GHMC which has received wide appreciation from all quarters. Even Leader of the Opposition K. Jana Reddy has hailed the GHMC in this regard, he observed.

KTR also said the subsidized meals being supplied by the GHMC was being utilized by thousands of poor for which the State government was spending Rs 15 crores annually. Steps are being taken to ensure that these Annapoorna Food Courts to supply subsidized meals would be started near hospitals and also in labour colonies. Steps are also being taken to see that drinking water is also provided at these places, he added. (NSS)
