Backward castes from Uttar Pradesh protest at Jantar Mantar, demand inclusion in SC category

New Delhi: The members of backward castes from Uttar Pradesh protested at Jantar Mantar on Monday, demanding their inclusion in SC category.

Led by former MP and president of Kashyap Nishad Adivasi Mehra Sabha, Narendra Kumar Kashyap, scores of members of several extremely backward castes in UP attended the protest and tried to take out a march to the Parliament but were stopped by the police.

The castes of Kashyap, Nishad, Kevat, Kahar, Dhimar, Mallah among others are demanding to be included in SC category but no government is listening to them, Kashyap said.

“Unless you unite and are determined to snatch your right no government will listen to you,” he said, addressing the protesters.

They also demanded justice for the rape survivors from the community in UP and Rajasthan.

“The women and girls of the community are facing threat to their honour and life. In both the cases the victims of rape belonged to extremely poor Dhimar and Kashyap castes. Police has not been able to arrest them,” Kashyap said.
