BJP to organise ‘Chalo Assembly’ protest against 12% Muslim quota

Stating that the Bharatiya Janata Party was against giving reservation on the basis of religion, BJP MLA NVSS Prabhakar on Wednesday announced that his party would organise ‘Chalo Assembly’ protest on March 24 to oppose proposed 12% Muslim reservation in the Telangana State.

Speaking to media persons at Assembly Media Point, Prabhakar said that the BJP would have supported reservation if it was given on the basis of backwardness. However, he said that the TRS Government wants to give 12% Muslim quota on the basis of religion in violation of set norms. He also accused the State Government of misusing the Backward Classes Commission for political gains. He said instead of assigning the task of studying conditions of Muslims in the State to BC Commission, the State Government could have given the same task to Minorities Commission. He said that the BC Commission was unable to undertake other activities due to ongoing study and thus, the interest of Backward Classes was getting hurt. (INN)
