Aizawl: In a first, 110 gm of cocaine was seized in Mizoram following a joint operation by Narcotics Control Bureau and Mizoram Excise and Narcotics department.
The drug was sent through Aizawl Post Office and it was seized at Rangvamual area near Aizawl on Saturday night over a tip off, a senior official of the Excise and Narcotics department said.
The cocaine was sent by mail from Colombia to a person at Rangvamual most likely to be shipped outside Mizoram, he said.
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officials were, however, tight-lipped about the seizure.
“We do not know the local rate of the cocaine as we have never seized it before in the state,” they said.
Though a large amount of heroin had been earlier seized with Mizoram being one of the main conduits for drug trafficking from the infamous Golden Triangle via Myanmar, this was the first time cocaine was seized in the state.
