Leader of Opposition in Telangana State Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir on Friday demanded a CBI probe into the cases pertaining to Naxalite-turned-gangster Md. Nayeemuddin, who was killed in an exchange of fire with the police on August 8.

Addressing the media at the CLP office, Shabbir Ali said the seizure of cash, arms & ammunition and land records show the gravity of criminal activities of  Nayeem and his gang members. He felt the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the State government would not be able to conduct multi-dimensional, multi-disciplinary and inter-State investigation. He also said the Income Tax and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) would be able to trace the origin of illegal cash and how it was accumulated. Similarly, the recovery of two AK-47 assault rifles, a sten gun and other Arms and Ammunition were involved investigation at the national and international levels. The issue poses threat to national security and a SIT, headed by an IGP Rank officer and comprising of Police Inspectors, will not be able to find out the truth, he added.

Shabbir Ali said the land documents recovered from the dens of Nayeem and his accomplices show that the gangster’s web was spread across five States of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Chattisgarh and Odisha. The SIT will not be able to conduct this inter-State investigation. He also pointed out that names of several senior police officials, bureaucrats and politicians were doing rounds. “Some DGP Rank officials, both serving and retired, allegedly acted hand-in-glove with Nayeem. Can we expect the SIT members to investigate the role of their bosses?, he asked.

Quoting media reports, Shabbir Ali said several politicians, big industrialists, realtors and other influential persons are allegedly involved in this criminal-police-politicians nexus. “The recent development of Yadadri Temple has given a big boost to real estate industry in Bhongir and surrounding areas. Everyone was trying to capatalise the reality boom and therefore, Nayeem and his gang and their contacts prospered through their illegal activities. All such politicians, irrespective of their party affiliations and posts, should be punished,” he demanded.

“The CBI is the best agency to conduct a thorough probe. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao should consider our demand and order a CBI investigation immediately,” he said, adding that everyone who supported or encouraged Nayeem’s criminal activities should be brought to book. (NSS)
