Congress will eradicate drug menace from Punjab: Rahul Gandhi

Zirakpur (Mohali, Punjab) : Reiterating his stand on the prevalent drug menace in Punjab, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday assured that if the Congress government comes to power in the state, the drug problems will be eradicated within months, as the current state government was turning a ‘blind eye’ to the dilemma.

“Drugs are and have been a very serious problem in Punjab. The Akalis made fun of me the last time I came here and said that but it is the truth. Raising the issue of drugs is not against Punjab. Saying that the Akalis are not taking action against drugs, is not against Pubjab,” Rahul told the media here ahead of his meeting to discuss issues related to Assembly polls next year with the Party.

He further asserted that when the Congress party comes to power in the state, action will be swiftly taken on the menace and the results will be seen within months, as the situation will completely change.

Rahul accused the state government of simply avoiding and ignoring the the problem at hand.

Stating that he wants to extend all help possible for the betterment and the development of Punjab, he added that Punjab is the heart of the nation and help must be given to the state in every way possible.

“The challenge now is that there are thousands of farmers in Punjab whose money must be given to them without delay. Punjab’s farmers feed the entire nation, so the most important thing is taking care of them,” Rahul said.

“Congress party stands together and we want to give a new government to Punjab which is sensitive, concerned about the future of its youth, takes care of farmers, and re-starts the old industries,” he added.

Congress faced defeat in the 2007 and 2012 Punjab Assembly polls and hopes at tasting victory in 2017. (ANI)
