Congress Working Committee likely to meet Sep 8

A meeting of Congress Working Committee (CWC), the party’s highest decision-making body, is likely to be held on September 8 to discuss organisational issues and present political situation, party sources said.

The meeting will be held against the backdrop of the ongoing process of organisational elections which will culminate with the election of president.

There had been suggestions from within the party for elevation of party vice president Rahul Gandhi to the top post while some leaders had suggested that Sonia Gandhi should continue to be the president.

The Congress is making efforts towards its revival after the debacle in the Lok Sabha elections and defeat in subsequent assembly polls with Rahul Gandhi aggressively taking on the Narendra Modi government over the past few months.

Sources said that the working committee is likely to discuss measures to expand party’s base.

The meeting comes weeks ahead of crucial assembly elections in Bihar, where the Congress is part of alliance that includes Janata Dal-United and Rashtriya Janata Dal.
