Madurai: A 24-year old Tamil Nadu Special Police constable, posted at the Madras High Court Bench campus here on security duty, allegedly attempted suicide by shooting himself from a self-loading rifle.

Constable S Kameswaran, who shot himself yesterday, suffered bullet injury in the shoulder and was out of danger at a hospital where he was being treated, police said today.

He was posted for security at a bungalow meant for judges but it was not occupied by any judge at the time of the incident, police said.

Police personnel in the neighbouring area rushed to the spot after hearing the gun shot sound and saw the constable lying in a pool of blood and took him to a hospital.
