CPI urges CM to take drought relief measures; lead all-party team to Delhi to tackle crisis

Hyderabad: CPI floor leader in Telangana Assembly R Ravindra Kumar, MLA, on Sunday requested Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao to drought relief measures on a war-footing to tackle the grim situation and step up pressure on the Union government for release of adequate financial assistance and also for granting more funds.

            In a letter to the Chief Minister on Sunday, the CPI floor leader urged the former to take initiative for raising number of work days as well as wage rates for the farm rythu coolies under the Rural Employment Assurance Scheme of the Centre. He also brought to the notice of the Chief Minister that there was no water for drinking to the people and there was no fodder for the cattle due to drying up of wells, ponds and tanks in the villages. The CPI leader requested the Chief Minister to lead an all-party delegation to the Centre for pressurizing it for more funds to tackle the calamitous situation. He also urged the Chief Minister to prepare and announce a comprehensive report on the release of drought mitigation funds by the Centre, the amount spent on drought relief by the State and also necessary details of expenditure to be incurred for the purpose, he added.
