New Delhi: Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya today sought one-time grant of Rs 175 crore for celebration of centenary Year of Osmania University from Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar.
Dattatreya today met with Javadekar at his office and gave letter regarding one-time grant of Rs 175 crore for celebration of centenary year of Osmania University, a Labour Ministry press release said.
In his letter, Dattatreya said, “The Osmania University is entering into centenary year 2017-18 and it is time to acknowledge the services rendered by the university to the nation building.”
He further said, “It is also time to improve the university’s infrastructure, such as buildings, laboratories, hostels, sports facilities etc to commemorate with the stature as one of the biggest state universities in India and to meet the ever growing needs of the university.”
Osmania University is named after its founder, Nawab Osman Ali Khan, the seventh Nizam of Hyderabad who rather through a farman or Royal Charter, brought the University into existence in 1918.
The establishment of Osmania University symbolises a renaissance in the Indian educational system. Osmania University, is the seventh oldest in India, the third oldest in south India and the first to be established in the erstwhile princely state of Hyderabad.
