New Delhi: A 26-year-old woman has allegedly bludgeoned her husband to death following an altercation over buying of medicine in Narela area, police said on Tuesday.
The couple with three children had a fight over the issue of buying of medicine on Monday.
The deceased, Kamal, 28, hit Khushi during the argument which enraged her and prompted her to take a hammer to retaliate, said a senior police officer.
Kamal was attacked in his sleep and in front of the couple’s four-year-old daughter, he said.
Kamal, who worked at a shoe factory, had returned home in an inebriated state at around 9.30 PM yesterday, he said. He started arguing with his wife over buying medicines.
Khushi was undergoing treatment for a mental illness for sometime and the medicine were supposed to be bought for her, he added.
The couple fought for some time and later the Kamal went to sleep. Two of their children retired to their rooms but their four-year-old daughter stayed inside the couple’s room. When Kamal dozed off, Khushi picked up a hammer hit him on his head and back, he said.
Police recovered the hammer from the spot and took Khushi to Narela police station to question her, he added.
According to the family’s neighbours, after murdering her husband, Khushi sat outside her house and was seeing a marriage procession.
Khushi told police that she had attacked her husband in a fit of rage and did not mean to kill him.
The three children are currently under the care of their relatives. The body has been preserved for post mortem in a local mortuary.
