Disappointed that GST Bill could not be passed: Jayant Sinha

New Delhi, Dec.23 : Minister of State for Finance Jayant Sinha on Wednesday expressed disappointment as the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill could not be passed in the Winter Session of the Parliament.

“It’s been a very disappointing session. Our expectation was that we would get GST Bill passed,” Sinha told the reporters here.

“We think that the solutions we have offered for the three conditions of the Opposition are reasonable and any party who wants what is good for the nation will agree to what we have suggested,” he added.

Earlier, both the houses were adjourned sine die after an uproar over the alleged corruptions in the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) involving Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

The Rajya Sabha was worst hit in terms of deliberations in this session of Parliament, losing several days to disruptions over union minister V K Singh’s Dalit comment, the National Herald case, corruption cases like the Madhya Pradesh Vyapam scam and the alleged atrocities against Dalits in Punjab.

The GST Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha on May 6, 2015, receiving 352 votes for and 37 against. All 37 no votes came from members of the AIADMK. The Indian National Congress party opposed the Bill and boycotted the vote. (ANI)
