DNA report of minor rape victim who was allowed to abort 25-week pregnancy by SC doesn’t match with the accused

Ahmedabad: A DNA report on the foetus of the alleged 14-year-old rape victim allowed by the Supreme Court to terminate her 25-week pregnancy does not link it with the accused.

The report was opened on Monday before a special court for Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act cases during the hearing of a bail plea by Jatin Mehta, the doctor accused of raping the teen.
The report said the DNA samples of the doctor and the foetus did not match, prompting the judge to grant Mehta bail, according to public prosecutor Arvind Patel.

A team of doctors here had on July 31 terminated the pregnancy on the Supreme Court’s orders – possibly the first of its kind in Indian medico-legal history.

Under the law, abortion is not allowed after the 20th week of pregnancy. The victim had sought the apex court’s permission for the abortion after the sessions and the high courts rejected her pleas.

The girl had alleged Mehta raped her at his clinic when she had visited him for typhoid treatment.
