Environment, Health & Safety (ehs) Manager

Job Description:

The Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager is a Senior Safety Professional heading EHS function at Plant level, having sound network with Government machinery under relevant statutes (specifically under Factories Act, Pollution Control, Waste Management etc). He / She should be able to lead a team of Safety professionals, ensuring compliances & nurturing a culture of Injury-free organization through EHS measures.

He / She is responsible to achieve the Platform objectives in the areas of Safety, Health, Environment, Fire, Quality and Productivity. He / She will drive continuous improvement in improving efficiencies, systems, product quality and cost apart from identifying and resolving special cause variations in the processes.

He / She will facilitate and focus all platforms in connection with EHS drives to meet the set objectives and targets. He / She needs to maintain / modify systems and procedures to meet the OC Corporate EHS objectives, directives, targets, programs and OMS Policy of the company. He / She will be responsible for all EHS&F legal / statutory and OC global compliances, driving S.A.F.E., Critical Six and EHS drivers. He will be responsible for driving motivational programs and ensuring team coordination with Operators, Line Managers, ERTs and SBLs on all health & safety-related matters.

He / She is expected to facilitate knowledge / information sharing to the OE team and play a key role in improving Employee Engagement within the Platform as well.

The position reports to the Plant Leader.

Responsibilities:

1.Live the Safety stand, adhere to the safety responsibilities
Provide leadership in safe working practices, promoting safety awareness and performance for self and others in all areas of responsibility to achieve full compliance with site and company standards and guidelines.

Lead and support safety initiatives and processes to drive towards zero recordable injuries.
Effectively communicate Owens Cornings stand on safety to ensure employees believe in and behave in a manner that supports our stand that all accidents are preventable, safety is everyones responsibility, and that working safety is a condition of employment at Owens Corning.
Incorporate the safety stand and safe improvements into all people-related initiatives.
Live the Safety Stand, adhere to the safety responsibilities.

Metrics
Safety metrics RIR, first aids, near misses, SAFE and Critical 6 Scores
Measured results versus establish critical outcomes.
Measured results of proactive safety programs such as hazard audits and pre-task safety reporting.
Implement a personal safety action plan and review progress with the Plant Leader.

2.Directing Operations
Knowledge of THA & outlining essential procedures for Safe working at factory.
Support the monitoring and sustaining of all upcoming corporate EHS drives in support with platform teams.
Leading, supporting and guiding Emergency Response teams/committees.
Lead Site Safety Committee for nurturing an Injury-free Organization culture.
Coordinating fire related compliances and guidance of Fire fighting to maintenance team.
Manage ETP operations and support for environment sustenance drive.
Establish and monitor safe and world-class House Keeping practices in his work area.
Safety Inspection, checks and Audits all across the plant
Near Miss reporting , & investigation , First Aid investigation First report (as happens their his shift)
Act as a core Emergency Response Team member to handle emergency situation
Responsible for operation of effluent treatment plant to ensure compliance to discharge standard
Responsible for co-ordination of analysis of various parameters required statutorily
Responsible for ensuring stack and ambient air monitoring in plant is done as per regulatory requirements and making sure that limits are not exceeded
Implementation and maintenance of the environmental management system
Continuous follow up and enhancing the S.A.F.E. score, Critical Six and EMS system compliance. Understanding of the SAFE, Critical Six and EMS system and translate the requirements in plant.
Optimized operations for ETP, GRB, Forming scrubber and EHS as Supervision.
Optimum Treatment and Process improvements and maintenance of inventory for ETP, GRB etc.
Work on new ways of cost efficient operation & minimum Downtime of M/C.
Core Emergency Response Team member to handle emergency situation.
Establish and monitor safe and world-class House Keeping practices in his work area.
Coordination with shift EHS OEs, Dispatch & customers for timely dispatch of glass waste (to ensure minimum inventory).
Interface with customers of by-product and coordinate timely dispatches of the appropriate material.
Tracking applicable environmental regulations and doing the necessary tasks for fulfilling them.
Liaison with Director of factories/Inspector of Factoires & other government and regulatory authorities for environment &
safety related matters.

Implementation and maintenance of the environmental management system and support OMS.
Design & impart training to nurture an Injury free Organization.
EHS budget preparation and monitoring.
Tracking capital expenditure related to EHS and ensuring their effective and time bound utilization.
Monitoring, supporting, guiding for meeting time line of all the EHS activities.

Job Requirements:

Experience & Knowledge:
Degree / Diploma / Bachelors In Science (B.Sc) or Bachelors in Engineering (B.E.) with at least 10-15 years of experience in an EHS role.
Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Industrial Safety as per provisions of Factories Act 1948.
Masters or Diploma in Environment / Fire is also an added advantage.
Understanding of legal requirements from Director of Factories, APPCB, and Fire points and knowledge of related documentation is required.

Should be well-versed with QMS, IMS, OSHAS procedures.
Should be well-versed with Factories Act, 1947 and Applicable Rules under Safety Chapter & its compliances.
Should be well-versed with Pollution & Environment Act, Compliances.
Should be well-versed with Contractor Safety Compliances procedure.

Good knowledge of Behavior based Safety Systems, Internal Audits.
