Ex-RS member Rahman passes away

Hyderabad, January 12: Former Rajya Sabha member Khalilur Rahman passed away on Tuesday at his residence in Hyderabad. He was 75. He was elected as a Member of Parliament to Rajya Sabha twice from 1986 till 1996.

A lawyer by profession, Mr Rahman contested and lost for the Kodangil MLA seat on a Janata Party ticket.

He later joined the Telugu Desam Party following the call given by its founder and actor N T Rama Rao. After the TDP was split, Rahman stayed back in the N T Rama Rao’s camp.

He stayed away from politics after the demise of N T Rama Rao.

He later joined the Congress party and served as All India Congress Committee member, Wakf Board Chairman for the state and as the Chairman of Urdu Academy under the reign of former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy. He was made Incharge of the APCC Minorities Department.

In a condolence message, the APCC president, Mr D Srinivas, has stated that he lost an elderly friend from the Minorities section and conveyed his heart-felt condolences to the members of the bereaved family.
