External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj meets Maldivian president

New Delhi: External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Monday called on Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom here before formal talks.

“The week begins with Maldives. EAM @SushmaSwaraj calls on President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom before formal talks,” foreign ministry spokesman Vikas Swarup said in a tweet. Sushma Swaraj meets Maldivian president Yameen, who is scheduled to hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi later in the day, is on a two-day trip to India.

He was among the SAARC leaders who had attended Modi’s swearing-in in May, 2014. Earlier, Swaraj had visited Maldives in November 2014 and again in October 2015 for the India-Maldives Joint Commission, held after 15 years.

Yameen would also call on President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday.
