Fake LIC agent nabbed for cheating

The City Cyber Crime police on Monday arrested one Victor Immanuel Chandrakant with several aliases at Chennai for cheating one Mirza Qayum Baig of Rs 2.4 lakh on pretext of providing handsome commission by making LIC policies to software employees. Similarly the accused also cheated two women of Hyderabad of Rs 4 lakh with false promises.  In Chennai also, he allegedly cheated many persons.

Police said on September 14 last year complaint Mirza Qayum Baig of Kagaziguda, Puranapool stated the accused introduced himself as an agent of Srinivasan Raju, who was carrying on services as Insurance Agent and was receiving huge payments towards commission.

 

The accused told the complainant that had good contacts with HR managers of many software companies and nearly 2,300 employees are ready to get insured. If the complainant join as insurance agent, the company would provide commission to the agent, from that 10% commission would be given to the HR managers for providing their employees and 20% commission would be retained by the agent. To get the agency from insurance company, the accused demanded a deposit of 1% of the total insured amount as security deposit. The total insured amount was estimated to be Rs 2.3 crore as each employee has to take a policy for Rs 10,000. Believing the accused, the complainant transferred Rs 2.3 lakh into the bank account of the accused. Later, the accused avoided calls of the complainant.

Based on the complaint, a special team led by K.V.M. Prasad, Inspector of Police along with two constables investigated the case and nabbed the cheat in Chennai on Monday.  (NSS)
