Federer admits splitting up with coach Stefan Edberg

Johannesburg, Dec.09 : World number three Roger Federer has announced that he has parted ways with ‘his childhood idol’ Stefan Edberg and said that Croatian Ivan Ljubicic will continue to his main coach in the 2016 season.

The 17-time Grand Slam champion, who enjoyed resurgence in form under Edberg, said that he had originally roped in the Swedish as an assistant coach only for 2014 but expressed his gratitude to extend the partnership through this year, Sport24 reported.

The Swiss maestro stated on his website that Edberg’s influence would always remain on his game, adding that the six-time Grand Slam champion would always be a part of his team.

Federer, who is aiming to add more titles to his all-time record haul of Grand Slam titles, will kickstart next season at the Brisbane International starting January 3. (ANI)
