Four get 20 yrs RI in gangrape case

Ratlam (MP): A special court here today awarded 20 years rigorous imprisonment to four persons for gangraping a married tribal woman in 2013.

The 20-year sentence pronounced by Special Judge (SC/ST) D N Shukla was given to Lakhan Singh (24), Govind Bagri (23), Suresh Parmar (23) and Narsingh Parmar (21), all residents of Badodia village in Ratlam district.

The accused had gangraped the tribal woman when she was sleeping at a farm in the village in March 2013. The accused had also threatened victim’s husband and kids with a sword and axe, he said.

They court convicted them under sections 376 (D) of IPC (gangrape) and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 each against them. In addition to the 20-year term, the court also awarded one year sentence and a fine of Rs 1,000 each under section 506 Part-II (criminal intimidation), Special Public Prosecutor, Neeraj Saxena said.

The court ordered them to pay the entire fine to the victim and also directed that in case they failed to pay the cost, they will have to undergo an additional one-year imprisonment.
