GHMC to convince slum dwellers on housing scheme

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to launch a special drive to convince slum dwellers to give up their land for housing scheme.

GHMC Commissioner Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy has directed all the Deputy Commissioners to coordinate and involve with the local MLAs, Corporators, NGOs, Residential Welfare Associations and Housing Engineers in their jurisdiction to explain the benefits of the housing scheme to the slum dwellers. He said that the confidence level of slum dwellers should be increased so that they could come forward to give their land in the identified slums to take up the housing scheme.

The Project Officers of UCD wing of the various circles told the Commissioner that slum dwellers were not willing to part with their land for various reasons. Responding to it, the Commissioner advised that special teams should be formed to convince the slum dwellers. The Commissioner directed the Additional Commissioner (UCD) to fix up the targets to the Project Officers and every week a detailed report should be furnished so as to take necessary steps for housing scheme.

Additional Commissioners Surendra Mohan, Ramakrishna Rao and Bhaskara Chary, Deputy Commissioners, Housing Engineers and senior officials have participated in the review meeting for Housing and UCD. (INN)
