GHMC parks to be converted into “Sparrow and Native Bird Conservation” zones

Hyderabad: Efforts of Citizen’s Action for Local Biodiversity Awareness and Conservation (CALBC), a group of bird lovers residing in Ambience fort at Attapur, got fertile with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation deciding to launch a special zone for sparrows, which were rapidly disappearing from the city, on World Sparrow Day on March 20.
The GHMC Commissioner has determined to convert some of the parks into “Sparrow and Native Bird Conservation” zones following the proposals by the Bird Lovers Society. “We are extremely happy to make efforts to conserve birds by providing nesting facilities yielding positive results. We are celebrating the return of sparrows to our ambience fort colony. It is a moment of pride for all of us that we have successfully brought back sparrows through relentless conservation efforts, said Rajani Vakkalanka, Director of CALBAC. “We will also associate with the municipal corporation in identifying and creating database of areas where sparrows spotted, providing nesting facilities and water feeders.
