Give houses to poor, CM tells Collectors

Exhorting the district Collectors and Superintendents of Police to work in tandem and synergy, Chief Minister K Chadrasekhar Rao today said welfare schemes and development programs should reach out to all on time.

At a meeting with Collectors and SPs and other officials at MCR HRD here on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said the former play a key role in implementing the flagship program of double bed room houses for the poor. The Collectors should be proactive in taking the schemes to the poor and deprived class. He expressed discontent at the previous governments for not caring to provide shelter to the poor. He pointed out that previous regimes used to construct the poor houses in a box model which was not good and were away from the villages.

“This is not our priority and the houses should have all amenities”, he said, adding that 60,000 houses, including 36,000 houses in villages and 24,000 in towns be built. The MLA and the minister concerned will share the amount for the housing facility, including Rs 5.04 lakh per a house in villages and Rs 5.30 lakh in towns. Land acquisition should be made avoiding problems to the people and payment of compensation should be made on time, he said, adding that sand for the purpose should be made available.

The Government will amend the rule to use its land which is 5km away from the village and beneficiaries should be found giving priority to SCs and STs. He accused the previous government of swindling Rs 5,000 crore for housing scheme which led to suspension of 300 officials and staff some of whom went to jail. Tahsildars should issue Beneficiaries Certificates and that should be checked by the Collectors for authenticity, he said.

Speedy construction of 400 houses in every Assembly segment on pilot basis should begin and officials must be extra cautious else will face stringent action, KCR warned. The Chief Minister also asked them to acquire land for projects in Mahbubnagar, Naglonda and Adilabad districts on fast pace. (NSS)
