Goa CM takes a dig at MLA who fell asleep during Budget

Panaji: Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar today took potshots at Independent MLA Vijai Sardessai over a video purportedly showing him dozing off in the Assembly when the budget was being presented, which led to a verbal duel between the two.

“You should not stand up while I am addressing the House.

I can understand your problem…if you sit then you tend to sleep,” Parsekar told Sardessai during the Question Hour today.

He was referring to the video which went viral showing Sardessai sleeping while the Budget was being presented yesterday.

“Your budget was so boring. It is not my fault if I felt sleepy. It was done without any survey and was just firing in the air,” Sardessai shot back triggering a war of words between the two on the floor of the House.

The CM responded quickly claiming the Budget was drafted keeping in mind the common man.

“I have not drafted the budget to please the Opposition members. The common man is happy with the Budget. If they are not happy then they will send us home (during upcoming 2017 polls),” Parsekar said.

The Opposition and ruling benches also had a verbal fight over the issue of allowing a liquor unit in Sanguem taluka.

While Opposition claimed the unit will cause pollution, the ruling benches claimed the unit is permitted as it will provide employment for the locals.
