Govt. releasing money to contractors not to farmer – Uttam Kumar Reddy

Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee President slammed TRS Govt. that it is not releasing the third installment of Rs.4000 crore to the farmers under loan waiver scheme. Banks has stopped releasing loans to the farmers. As promised, State Govt. had to release Rs. 4000 crore every year for four years. Govt. had announced waiver of Rs. 17000 crore to the farmers. Farmers were hoping that Govt. would pay this amount but it has not done so. Since banks are not granting loans to the farmers, they are forced to approach private financiers who charge 36% to 48% interest per annum. It is very serious situation. Due to the recent torrential rains, crops have been destroyed and 37 lakh farmers have suffered. Many farmers had deposited their patta pass books and gold with the banks.

Mr. Reddy pointed out that Govt. is paying Rs. 2000 crore to irrigation contractors but it is not paying Rs. 4000 crore to farmers.
