Gujarat: Pregnant Dalit woman, others beaten for refusing to clear cow carcass

Ahmedabad: Karja village in Gujarat’s Banaskantha district after they refused to dispose of a dead body of a cow on Saturday.

According to the news published in the daily hunt, police said, under the Indian Penal Code and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, Six people were arrested.

Around a group of 10 people from Darbar community attacked his family including his pregnant wife Sangeeta on Friday night after the family refused to dispose of the carcass in an FIR lodged by Nilesh Ranwasia.

Sangeeta including Six people and two other women, sustained injuries. police said, Nilesh and others who got minor injuries were discharged after the first aid while Sangeeta was admitted to Palanpur civil hospital.

Banaskantha superintendent of police Neeraj Badgujar said that they immediately driven to the village and within hours arrested the accused. Arrested persons were identified as Batawarsinh Chauhan (26), Maknusinh Chauhan (21), Yogisinh Chauhan (25), Bavarsinh Chauhan (45), Dilvirsinh Chauhan (23) and Naredrasinh Chauhan (23) arrested persons were identified “We have provided protection to the Dalit families in the village and are doing our best to maintain peace and harmony among various communities,” Badgujar said.

At Una, some Dalit youths were beaten up by cow vigilantes. The community pledged not to skin dead cows, a traditional occupation of a section of Dalits, in the end of the incident.
