Gujarat protest: Home Minister takes stock of situation

Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday spoke to Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel regarding the violent incidents of Tuesday night in the state and discussed the current state of things.

Additional forces were rushed to Gujarat as requested by the state government after the protests on Tuesday night escalated as the angry mobs took to the streets setting public property on fire and blocking roads.

Leading the protest to demand OBC reservation for the Patel community in Gujarat, Hardik Patel called for a state-wide bandh.

Curfew was imposed in Mehsana city and Unjha and Visnagar towns after incidents of arson in which attempts were made to set Gujarat Minister of State of Home Rajni Patel’s house on fire.

Earlier on Tuesday, a mob congregated in Ahmedabad to demand reservation for their Patidar caste in a rally at the GMDC ground.

In a move to push their demand for inclusion in OBC category for reservation, members of the Patel community led by Hardik gathered in Ahmedabad in a rally at GMDC. (ANI)
