Haleem makers asked to follow safety norms

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has directed the Haleem makers to follow all safety norms during the ensuing holy month of Ramzan.

Deputy Mayor Baba Fasiuddin and senior officials of GHMC have instructed that Bhattis to cook Haleem should be set up in safe places only and they should not create any traffic problems. No Bhattis will be allowed on top floors and they must take fire safety measures. Meat should be procured only from slaughter houses and they must use quality ingredients.

The Haleem makers have been asked to maintain hygiene at all levels. They should ensure proper disposal of the wastage with proper covers and handover the same only to tippers. Further, Haleem should not be preserved for use next day. The unsold Haleem should be distributed free of cost to the poor on the same day or disposed off.

The Deputy Mayor said that the GHMC officials would inspect the Haleem centres and take stern action if they find any violation of norms.

During their interaction, the Haleem traders urged the Deputy Mayor to take up the issue with the State Government for exemption of Sales Tax on Haleem for whole month of Ramzan. They said police should be directed to permit business till late hours.

The Deputy Mayor assured that the matter of tax exemption would be brought to the notice of the government while the request for allowing the business till late hours would be referred to the Hyderabad and Cyberabad Police. (INN)
